Some Classes Are Now Accepting Auditors

March 23rd, 2020

Due to the high volume of requests of adults wishing to enroll in our high school courses, we are allowing teachers the option of accepting auditors to join their class on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested, watch for a tag on the course description that says, “this class accepts auditors."

While we begin the process of updating these courses, you can simply contact teachers and ask them if they accept auditors. For those classes that allow an auditor, here are the guidelines:

  1. Auditors may participate in the assigned reading.
  2. Auditors may watch or listen to the assigned lectures.
  3. Auditors may attend the live recitation.
  4. Auditors may complete the work assigned by the teacher.
  5. Auditors may NOT turn on their web cam during class.
  6. Auditors may NOT participate in class discussions. (Although, some teachers may choose to open up the last few minutes of a class to auditors.)
  7. Auditors may NOT expect the teacher to grade work or provide feedback on work completed by an auditor.

We do ask that out of respect for the teachers who are willing to open their classrooms to auditors, that auditors do NOT interrupt, correct, or interfere with the teacher's instruction. If there is a question, we ask auditors to email the teacher outside of class and schedule a time to discuss their question(s).

We hope this opportunity is helpful to parents who want to cultivate the life of the mind and educate themselves in the great literature and ideas of the Western tradition.
